Quarterly Box Fail

Originally, I wanted to make a beautiful ‘Unboxing’ post, but that didn’t quite work out as I hoped it would …

Back in the distant time of July 2015, I decided to subscribe to Book Riot’s Quarterly Box. Why, you ask ? Well, it was for a bunch of different reasons. First, I was only a few months into the book-bogging business  (you can tell how really optimistic I was, so naive, so hopeful about my abilities to commit to what I start). It was very out-of-character coming from me, and the point is, I should have known. So, that was the first reason. The second reason was that I decided this in freaking July ! I was on vacation, I was far away from Paris, and I had plenty of time on my hands. The idea of a bunch of new books seemed a good idea, and yes, I did forget that September rhymes with school and homework and so-little-time. The third reason, which is the best reason of the lot, was that I wanted to boost up my reading, as well as diversifying it a little. Of course, I couldn’t be sure it would be diversified, but 1) let’s be real, this is Book Riot and 2) it still meant that the books I would receive, by not being on my TBR, would already serve as a broadening of my horizons.

In case you don’t know, Book Riot is a wonderful bookish website in which a lot of wonderful bookish people write wonderful bookish articles. It’s one of my favourite websites, and my number one to-go source when it comes to bookish goodness. Also, they have a wonderful bookish surprise Quarterly Box, which they ship every 3 months, and is filled with wonderful bookish goodies : books most of all, but also cool bookish gadgets and gizmos. I wanted one for a while and, back in July, I decided to take a leap of faith, which was a big step for me since I hate surprises and I hate to feel like I’m wasting my money, and I hate finding out that I don’t like a book (hence why my book-bying process is a very thorough one).

But it turns out, it wasn’t meant to be. Officially 6 weeks after my package was shipped and I’m still waiting. Well, not waiting exactly, since the folks at Quarterly Box confirmed that, at this point, it was probably lost. I’m getting a refund, no problem on that front, but I’m still disappointed (who knew Paris was so difficult to find ?!!!). So, why this post ? To share my frustration, first and foremost, but also to give you a word of caution. US shipping should be alright, I guess, but International shipping takes them a while, and I insist on them because I’ve ordered things from the US before and I never had to wait more than 3 weeks tops. It also doesn’t help that you can’t track your package with International shipping *eternal sigh*.

I don’t know if I’ll repeat the experience, especially since the shipping cost is almost more expensive than the Box itself and it all depends on the theme of the next Box, but as a first experience, it’s really broken the trust that I could have in them.
